Playa Blanca Lanzarote Weather Tips from UK Visitors

Real advice from British travellers who’ve been there, done that, and packed the jumper just in case. Here’s what to expect from the weather in Playa Blanca.

  • I’ve been to Lanzarote plenty of times in December. It’s mostly good weather, nice temperature, around mid-20s. It’s a windy island so sometimes the sun can catch you off guard and you end up burnt! The mornings usually start cloudy, and I remember our first few times there we’d feel disappointed in the mornings, until we learnt that was just the behaviour of the weather there. The clouds generally cleared by lunchtime.
We’ve had one or two days of rain in December but it’s never been full days, and it blows over quickly.
I love Lanzarote. Have a great time xx

  • I’ve been to the Canaries, mostly Lanzarote many, many times in winter.
    The answer is it varies.
You could have a scorching week or a week of cloud. Both are the extremes. Most likely is that you will get several sunny days in the low 20s with the odd cloudy half day or rain.
    It’s never not windy.
Evenings are chilly but most restaurants and bars are indoors so this doesn’t matter. By chilly I mean jeans and jumper rather than strappy summer dress.

  • Been to playa Blanca twice and would go again – main thing I like about it (which no one else has mentioned!) is the wholly pedestrianised promenade running about 2 miles across the sea front. I absolutely love a traffic free sea front to stroll among the restaurants without it being a cramped pavement/busy with traffic.

  • Just back from Playa Blanca after three weeks there. Only had three no sun days. It is very windy (permanent bad hair days) but still got a good tan. Because of the strong winds the evenings are cool bordering on cold so a lightweight jacket will be handy. Got home to a sunny bank holiday but no pool to sit beside!

  • Even if the weather isn’t 40 degrees and wall to wall sunshine, it’s still much better than the weather here in the UK (here we’ve only had approx 2 days of sunshine and warmth since Christmas). We were over in January and were sat out at 6pm!
Even if it is cloudy in
Lanzarote you can still tan and burn as the sun is 30% stronger in the Canaries. Don’t be fooled if overcast and make sure you use plenty of sun screen.

  • I love Playa Blanca! Lovely beaches and a promenade for walks to the fort and the lighthouse, lots of bars and café-bars for reasonably priced, food, drink and people watching and cheap public buses to other resorts and Arrecife. You can also book several excursions from there and catch a ferry for the day to Fuerteventura. Enjoy!
